Another Short Story

29 04 2008

Read title.

I managed to knock off another short story this past weekend, although “short” would have to be looked at in… we’ll call it “perspective”.  It’s nearly 4,500 words long.

!

It’s not a bad story – I thought it was good, even if other people didn’t – and it actually pertains to this blog.  I made it a goal to write one short story about the background of every character from The TECH Project.  The first was My Sacrifice, a story about Zoe Lee and her origins as the leader of Team Erie Canal.  The second, the story I just finished, was titled Dance, Dance, a tribute to Ian Drake’s freshman year.  (Not to be confused with a Fall Out Boy song of the same name.  They have nothing to do with one another.)

There are still ten stories left to go.  I have a plan – of sorts – for all of them.  But I really liked this last story.

If anyone would like to read it, just comment with your e-mail in the comment or in the response, and I’ll e-mail you a copy.

Meanwhile… I should be hearing back from that one last agent sometime this week, more towards the end of the week.  I can’t express how hopeful I am – even though I’m probably just going to get rejected again.

“Don’t hope more than you’re willing to work.” – Novelist Rita Mae Brown

Self-Mutilation

13 04 2008

Anybody who reads this title probably will think one of the following:

  1. The author has finally gotten so many rejection letters that she’s spiraling down into a vortex of death, doom, and despair (though not necessarily in that order.)
  2. There’s just some good old-fashioned cuttin’ going on around here.
  3. The author just really needs a life.

While number three may be the most viable, there is a specific reason that I’m writing about self-mutilation.  And, might I add, it was an accident.

I stabbed my foot on a pencil yesterday while I was drawing.  (That looks a little odd, written down like that.)  It hurt, and I ended up bleeding.  I couldn’t walk on it for a while.

So – kabam!  Half a page in the sequel to The TECH Project.

I’m still waiting on an agent, for those of you who are waiting for a read.  To the model-people: you can read the agent-ready draft of the first half of the novel, but you do have to ask me for it, so e-mail me and I’ll try to work it out with you.

Just a quick update, since I haven’t posted in a while.

There she was, just a-walkin’ down the street…

There isn’t much to update on, which is why I haven’t been updating.

For example, the photo shoot is definitely being pushed back. The current date: March 16th. That made me sad.

I haven’t been writing very much lately. I finished a full page of “The Final Experiment,” but besides that, all I’ve done are short stories and poems. And most of the short stories haven’t been making sense.

I’ve been so bored. There’s not much else to do – schoolwork and drama. Oh, the drama. You’d think that they’d know by now to grow up, wouldn’t you?

Oh, well. Last time I experienced “drama”, I wrote a novel.

Hopefully, I’ll get some responses from the agents soon…

Signing off.

Excited!

7 02 2008

I’m extremely excited today.

First off, it’s my mom’s birthday. Happy birthday, mommy.

Today is also let’s-send-a-query day. Three letters went out today… I was so excited last night, when I was putting the letters together, that I just wouldn’t shut up. I’m pretty sure most of my family members now understand some of the finer details of querying. (Is that a word?)
